Black Adam

Feature Film

I was part of the Warner Brothers in house Virtual Art Department and worked closely with the Supervising Virtual Art Director and the Production Designer of the film to design the look and layout of the main city environment.

The production was based in the USA but I was working from my home office just outside of London.

It was myself and another artist that was responsible for creating all of the buildings/layout for the city design.

I was given photographic reference of various Middle Eastern architectural styles and buildings - and I had to design/model many unique variations of buildings that included these Middle Eastern designs.

I modelled these buildings in a way where they could be downresed or upresed very easily as they had clean topology - but the vast majority of the buildings were already suitable for final quality film VFX.

The buildings were also modelled in a way where they could be completely customisable to create more unique variations. Each floor was also separate so the buildings could be made taller or shorter if required. Other sections of buildings could also be slotted together to form more variations.

Below are just a sample of the buildings created for the city.

Other duties included creating street layouts for previs and using the storyboards provided to create the environment for the shots.

This was a constantly evolving/changing process as the story was being developed at the same time.
